Debossing Guidelines

Debossing uses dies and heat to press customizable text into the cover. Choose between a blind, matte, or metallic foil debossing style with four location options. Not all debossing fonts and styles are available on all of our cover materials, so we have compiled these guidelines for you below.

Available with the following cover types:

• Full Material Covers
• Cameo Covers in sizes 8×8, 10×10, 12×12, and 8×10, 8×12, 9×12, 11×14 vertical and horizontal options.
• Combo Covers back cover only when ordered online. If you add a back photo, debossing is not available.

Debossing Styles

We offer three debossing styles. With blind debossing, your message is pressed into the cover to create a distinct impression in the material without the use of foil or color. Black or white debossing has a matte appearance, as foil debossing provides a metallic gold, silver, or rose gold finish.

• Authenia: 38pt
• Garamond Italic: 36pt
• Oswald Medium: 42pt
• Quicksand Regular: 30pt

Debossing Locations

The front and back covers offer different debossing placement options. Each location allows for up to three lines of text, which will be center aligned.

You have the option to add debossing to both the front and back of Full Material and Cameo Covers and can select different debossing styles for each. Combo Covers can have back cover debossing only.

Text Placement Specs

To keep all debossing text proportional to the size of the cover, the text justification varies depending on the Album or Book size and text location. For the front center, center location, the text is justified ¼" above the center of the board for all sizes. For the front lower, center; front lower, right; and back lower, center locations, the text justifications are as follows:

• ½" from cover edge for sizes 5×7 horizontal, 5×7 vertical, and 6×6
• ¾" from the cover edge sizes 8×8, 8×10 horizontal, 8×12 horizontal, and 9×12 or 11×14 horizontal
• 1" from cover edge for sizes 10×10, 12×12, 8×10 vertical, 8×12 vertical, and 9×12 or 11×14 vertical

On covers with a cameo, all of the front locations are positioned under the cameo opening. For the front center, center location, text is top justified ¾" below the cameo on all Album sizes. For the front lower, center and front lower, right locations, the text justifications are as follows:

• ¾" from the bottom of the cover for Album sizes 8×8, 8×10 horizontal or vertical, 8×12 horizontal or vertical, 9×12 horizontal or vertical, and 11×14 horizontal or vertical
• 1" from the bottom of the cover for Album sizes 5×7 horizontal, 5×7 vertical, 6×6, 10×10, and 12×12

Cameo Cover Limitations

Covers with a cameo allow for the following text line limitations:

• 8×8, 8×10 horizontal, 8×12 horizontal — one line of text with the Oswald font and two lines with the Quicksand font
• 9×12 horizontal — one line of text with both the Oswald and Quicksand fonts
• 11×14 horizontal — two lines of text with the Oswald font and three lines with the Quicksand font
• 10×10, 12×12 — two lines of text with the Oswald font and three lines of text with the Quicksand font
• 8×10 vertical, 8×12 vertical, 9×12 vertical, 11×14 vertical — up to three lines of text with both the Oswald and Quicksand fonts
