How to Choose a Float Frame

Get our tips on how to consider which Float Frame is right for you

A Float Frame creates the illusion that your image is floating within the frame. This floating effect is possible because of an ⅛” gap that is crafted between the print and the moulding. It offers a stylish and visually dynamic alternative to traditional and matted frames. Looking to turn your client’s photos into a masterpiece with a modern and sophisticated look? Then Float Frames are an excellent choice for you. We're highlighting 3 factors to consider when selecting a Float Frame.

3 Tips for Choosing the Right Float Frame

  1. Consider the Environment It Will Be Displayed In

Where is the photograph going to be hung? Knowing where the client wants it placed can help determine what frame to choose. Metal Float Frames create a professional look ideal for office settings, while genuine Wood Frames or a Classic Black Frame complement most home settings.

If your clients have a more contemporary-style home, consider thinner frames with a touch of metallic to draw attention. Also, consider using softer hues when displaying art in hallways. For larger statement pieces, select a color that complements their furniture.

  2. What Type of Artwork is Being Displayed?

For classic or traditional portraiture, a darker frame often perfectly complements the piece, adding a sense of timeless elegance. On the other hand, for lighter images or outdoor portraits we suggest a thinner frame that does not overpower the image, or give it a burst of modern attention by adding a Satin Metal Float Frame.

For Fine Art pieces, complement it with the natural elements of wood or add a contemporary twist with the look of Aged Metallic.

  3. Include the Characteristics of the Frame

The profile, color, and material of the moulding can greatly influence the overall presentation. Therefore, we suggest providing a well-balanced mix of styles and colors to appease your clients. Choosing a wider frame can make the artwork more prominent, while a wood frame can impart a sense of warmth and connection. Conversely, a metallic or darker-colored frame can spark attention and contrast to the room.

What All Can You Frame?

Float Frames can be used to display various types of print surfaces, not just our popular Gallery Wraps. You can display different types of photo papers, including Deep Matte, or showcase the luxurious textures of our Fine Art Prints to enhance the beauty of the artwork. Additionally, framing Metal Prints can provide a modern and sleek look.

By carefully selecting the appropriate Floating Frame, you can enhance your service as a photographer. Instead of just offering your clients photos, you can go the extra mile to present them as professionally framed pieces, turning them into stunning displays that elevate the image and the space they occupy.
